Free Fridays #4 Zattoo. Free Cable and Satellite TV
If you want to catch up with TV news at work or when on the move Zattoo is for you. It’s free, it’s legal and it’s not just news channels.
The creators of this free satellite and cable TV programme for Windows and Mac have agreements with the content providers which means that you can watch for free and whenever you change channel they insert a very short advert which only lasts a few seconds. This delay of a few seconds would happen when you change channel anyway as the new channel has to buffer enough data to play smoothly. And let’s face it, it’s no hardship to watch an advert for 3 seconds in return for free TV.
The screen shot below is real size and shows the default screen size when you open Zattoo. The channel selector can be toggled open and closed and the TV window can be resized up to full screen.

Picture quality and sound is excellent and unlike some other TV technologies, the streaming is smooth and reliable.
The programmes available for you to watch will depend on which country you are in when you are viewing. So if you’re on business in Belgium, you’ll see the same channels as listed above, but if you live in the USA you’ll see a different selection of channels when at home or in the office. English language news channels include Al Jazeera and France 24.
ill it replace your TV at home? No, not yet, but as a means of keeping up with TV news and other programmes it’s fantastic.
Zattoo is available for Mac and Windows and you can download it from zattoo.com
