It of course depends where the database is located (I'm assuming online) and what restrictions are placed on how you can connect to the database, but generally yes.

What happens if the user isn't connected though? Is you app reliant on having access to the data?</description>

		<description>I agree with Marc.  It's been impossible finding even basic descriptions of what anything does anymore. Everyone's asking what and who they are but no one gives clear answers!
